  • Social Media Manager

    Slow Food is a global grassroots organization that envisions a world in which all people can access and enjoy food that is good for them, good for those who grow it and good for the planet. Slow Food involves over a million activists, chefs, experts, youth, farmers, fishers, educators, and academics in over 160 countries. 

    The communications office at Slow Food is responsible for promoting the organization’s values and initiatives, working to increase awareness of the Slow Food movement through campaigns, events, and media. It manages internal and external communications, coordinates public relations, and collaborates with journalists and media to spread the Slow Food message. Additionally, it handles social media management and the production of promotional materials to support the organization’s activities at both local and global levels.


    Slow Food’s Social Media Manager must be able to communicate Slow Food’s mission, values and activities effectively and creatively.

    The Social Media Manager must be able to choose the right format, tone of voice and channel for different thematics and initiatives, in order to give visibility to the work of Slow Food’s international network, raise awareness on the importance of good, clean and fair food systems and finally reach and engage new people who want to contribute to promoting food that is good for us, for people and the planet.

    Key Responsibility

    • The Social Media Manager will contribute to setting the objectives of Slow Food’s communication on social media and identify the broader strategy to achieve them keeping the goals of the organization as a whole into consideration.
    • Design more specific social media strategies for different campaigns and projects. 
    • Each activity will require different communication funnels to be able to engage with our audience, inform them and involve them in our activities.
    • This will include setting and managing a dedicated budget, as well as qualitative and quantitative targets to be achieved.
    • Track the performance of the overall communication and the individual projects throughout the year to be able to evaluate and report their success by measuring the achievement of the targets.
    • To do this, monitor the evolution of social media platforms, trend topics and formats. They also should analyze the data on Slow Food’s audience to be able to choose the right strategy.

    • Communication Skills: Ability to effectively convey Slow Food’s mission, values, and activities through various social media channels while adapting the tone and format to suit different themes and initiatives.
    • Creativity: Capacity to generate innovative and engaging content that captures the attention of the target audience and promotes Slow Food’s goals effectively.
    • Strategic Thinking: Capability to contribute to setting overarching communication objectives and devising specific social media strategies for different campaigns and projects, aligning them with the organization’s goals.
    • Adaptability: Flexibility to adjust strategies and content based on evolving trends, platform algorithms, and audience preferences to maintain relevance and maximize engagement.
    • Analytical Skills: Proficiency in analyzing social media metrics and audience data to evaluate the effectiveness of communication strategies, identify areas for improvement, and make data-driven decisions.


    Hard Skills:

    • Social Media Management Tools: Proficiency in using social media management platforms (e.g., Hootsuite, Buffer) for scheduling posts, monitoring engagement, and analyzing performance metrics.
    • Content Creation: Ability to create various types of content including graphics, videos, and written posts using relevant software and tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or video editing software.
    • Budget Management: Experience in setting and managing budgets for social media advertising campaigns and sponsored content to effectively allocate resources and achieve desired outcomes.
    • Data Analysis: Proficiency in using analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, social media insights) to track key performance indicators, measure the success of campaigns, and generate reports for stakeholders.
    • Market Research: Understanding of market trends, competitor analysis, and audience segmentation techniques to inform social media strategies and optimize content for maximum impact.
