Change your habits
By paying a little more attention to our diet and lifestyle, we can maintain and improve our health and reduce our risk of developing many diseases.
In his book Food Rules: An Eater’s Manual, Michael Pollan, a writer and lecturer at the University of California, Berkeley, has compiled 64 simple rules to follow in order to eat well. Here is a selection:
Don’t eat anything with more than five ingredients.
Don’t eat anything your grandmother (or great-grandmother) wouldn’t recognize as food.
Don’t eat anything containing ingredients that no ordinary person would keep in their pantry.
Only eat foods that eventually rot.
Eat foods that have been predigested by bacteria or fungi.
Avoid supermarkets whenever you can.
Treat meat as a seasoning or special occasion food.
Eat animals that have themselves eaten well.
