The EU and Member States are committed to meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), adopted in September 2015, including a target to halve the amount of food waste per capita at both the retail and consumer level by 2030, and reduce food losses along the food production and supply chains.
In order to support the achievement of SDG target 12.3 on food waste, and maximise the contribution of all actors, the Communication on Circular Economy calls on the Commission to establish a platform dedicated to food waste prevention.
The EU Platform on Food Losses and Food Waste (FLW) is a working group that will be officialy launched on November 29. Chaired by the Commission, it involves civil society organisations and member states. It aims to support all actors in defining the measures needed to prevent food waste, sharing best practice, and evaluating the progress made over time.
The first meeting will be live streamed here.
Slow Food is a member of the platform. To find out more about our position and work on food waste, click here.
