Following the great success of the first edition in Bologna last year, and a screening of selected shorts and features at Salone del Gusto last month, entries are now being accepted for the return of Slow Food on Film.
To be held over May 6 – 10, 2009, the festival is focused on raising critical awareness in food culture through feature films, shorts, documentaries and TV series that develop original ideas about food and issues relating to the food industry and which present gastronomic memory as a heritage to be preserved.
Directors can now submit their film in one of the following four categories:
Shorts Competition: international competition for fictional and animated shorts.
Docs Competition: international competition for documentaries.
Best Food Feature: international competition for fictional and animated feature films.
Best TV Series: international award for fiction or documentary TV series.
Food production will also be a key theme during the Sustainable Living Film Festival being held next week over November 26-28 in Turkey. Following their journey to Italy for the Terra Madre meeting last month, the Istanbul Sustainable Living Cooperative and Learning Community have organized a program of 25 Turkish and foreign documentaries on topics ranging from agriculture to water, from energy to economy, and from food to mining.
Films to be screened include Thrist, a critique of the privatization of water and the World Water Forum which will take place in Turkey in 2009; Learning from Ladakh, an insight into a sustainable community; and Son Kumsal (The Shore) which tells the story of the separation of a Turkish village from the water in the Eastern Black Sea by the building of a motorway.
