When winemakers are inspired by passion, respect for rural culture and a sincere production ethic, wine can help change the world. Viticulture can add value to marginal areas, protect landscapes and uphold regional identities, At Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre 2012 this October, visitors will have the possibility to meet winemakers from around the world that are committed to this approach.
Wine experts and enthusiasts will find over 1,200 labels from Italian wineries, many of which are reviewed in Slow Food Editore’s Slow Wine guide, in the Enoteca space, situated between Lingotto pavilion 3 and the adjacent Oval Olympic Arena.
Many Taste Workshops will explore the world of wine, while always keeping an eye on the characteristics of the land and the people that make it unique.
Explore the Universe of Krug: Olivier Krug, the sixth generation of the family to oversee the prestigious Champagne house, will be leading a special tasting where he will be revealing the secrets of the Krug Grande Cuvée passed down through generations.

Uncharted Greece: With a passion for researching the products of old Greek terroirs, Georgios Ioannidis will be leading a tasting of six wines made only from native grapes from vines grown organically or biodynamically. Read an interview to Georgios Ioannidis here.

The Discreet Charms of Biodynamics: Biodynamics, an organic farming method that takes a holistic approach to relationships between humans, soil, plants and animals, is playing a leading role in viticulture today. Italian, French and Australian vignerons will discuss the history, growth and evolution of biodynamic viticulture. Tickets for the event available here.
Great Reserve Barolos for Aging: a tribute to the region of Piedmont and its most prestigious wine in a tasting from vintages from the early 2000’s, that will reunite some of the labels that have shaped the history of the Barolo denomination. Tickets for the event available here.
New Zealand: the Rise of Southern Pinot Noirs: Kiwi wine expert Jeffrey Chilcott will explore the evolution of the New Zealand wine industry over the past few years through the tasting of Pinot Noirs, which has been making fast and furious progress in recent years. On Sunday October 28, the Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre 2012 will be hosting the presentation of the 2013 Slow Wine Guide, featuring over 1000 labels from Italy’s best wineries according to Slow Food’s criteria. A special tasting of a selection of these wines will be an invaluable opportunity to get to know the women and men who spend their days among the vines and barrels, making quality wines with a strong local flavor, and gain a fresh new perspective on the world of viticulture. On Monday October 29, the conference What is Artisanal Wine? will provide an opportunity to discuss some of the most pressing issues concerning viticulture today and to reflect on the challenges of small-scale versus industrial wine production. Click here to find out more.
During Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre, more than 60 people from around Europe will also take part in a preparatory meeting for the upcoming edition of Vignerons D’Europe, the event that brings together more than 1,000 winemakers from 20 countries to discuss the environmental, social and economical sustainability of vine-growing and winemaking. The next edition is expected to take place in Turin in 2014, during the same period as Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre.
In a sneak preview of the wine events of Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre, two Taste Workshops dedicated to the most prestigious Italian prosciuttos paired with Franciacorta wines are being held in late September at Contadi Castaldi winery in Franciacorta, near Brescia (Lombardy). To find out more:
