The Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity opens new office in Tuscany

On July 3, the Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity is opening a new office at Alberese (www.alberese.com), a renowned farm of 4600 hectares in the stunning countryside near Grosseto. The center will be open to tourists and whomever wishes to learn about Slow Food’s projects for the protection of biodiversity: the Presidia, Ark of Taste, Earth Markets and A Thousand Gardens in Africa.

The center will be organizing a myriad of events, including meetings with producers, tasting sessions, conferences and activities for both adults and children. Aside from visiting the House of Biodiversity, local institutions, the Alberese farm and the Maremma National Park will be offering fun and educational activities such as visits to vineyards, horseback rides with the Butteri –tuscan cowboys- and boat trips on the Ombrone river. It will be a great opportunity to get to know a region, its people, the culture and its unique environment and biodiversity in a way that mainstream tourism does not allow.

The Azienda Agricola Alberese is renowned for its excellent wines, such as the Morellino di Scansano with DOC status, as well as olive oils and other products. They also breed the Maremma Cattle Slow Food Presidia, a native cow breed that was on the verge of extinction.

A visit to the Foundation office is a fantastic way to combine tourism with environmental awareness and to get to know aspects of a region that usually remain unknown to the general public.
