Edward Mukiibi will attend the organic fair in Nuremberg
Edward Mukiibi will participate to the upcoming BioFach, the most important international trade fair dedicated to organic products, to be held in Nuremberg, Germany, at the Nuremberg Exhibition Centre from February 11 to 14.
The president of Slow Food will be present on the opening day-Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 1 pm, and will attend the opening ceremony of BioFach.
Mukiibi will speak the following day, Feb. 12 at 12.30 pm (NCC Ost, room Istanbul), at the Agricultural Forum organized by Slow Food Germany on the topic:
Slow Food Farms, vision of a global network of farms for the production of good, clean and fair food according to agroecological principles.
The traditional, locally adapted production and processing of food doesn’t involve agrochemicals or artificial flavors that fool our senses. Discuss how the network of “Slow Food Farms” can make a valuable contribution to ensuring that the organic movement not only helps to protect the environment, but also gives food sovereignty back to humanity in the form of honest enjoyment.
Speakers:
Werner Haase – Owner – Leitzachtaler Ziegenhof
Edward Mukiibi – President – Slow Food International
Daniel Überall – Board of Directors – Kartoffelkombinat eG
Moderator:
Rupert Ebner – President – Slow Food Deutschland e.V.
Edward Mukiibi states: “2025 is the year of action for the agroecology transition. We are striving to see more agroecological farms worldwide joining the Slow Food Farms network, strengthening our journey toward a good, clean, and fair food system. This initiative can bring new momentum to the global food movement while addressing something crucial: supporting agroecological farmers and connecting them to a broader local and global network of committed individuals, communities, and professionals.”
He adds: “This is the year to work together toward a shared vision. Farmers, cooks, activists, experts, policymakers, leaders, youth, teachers, academics, and others must take complementary actions to combat the climate crisis and build a better food system.”
Agroecology and organics: a structural connection
Agroecology is frequently based on or inclusive of organic farming, but it goes further than certified organic production to emphasize biological and cultural diversity, local networking, and the development of the local food system. The fact that agroecology does not require certification is of particular benefit to small-scale farms in the Global South for whom certification is a long, expensive process involving many control bodies and bureaucracy. In the Global North, agroecological farms are often certified organic.
Always Feb 12, at 5pm, Mukiibi will intervene at Arms to farms – making peace with Nature and organic farming (NCC Ost, room St.Petersbourg).
Mayor Rommel Arnado from Kauswagan/Philippines will present his impressive and very successfull “Arms to farms ” project, which solved a deadly civil war by converting 14 commanders and about 5.000 rebels to organic farmers. The town and its 13 villages are 100 % organic, GMO is banned and the poverty rate went in 10 years down from 80 to 9 %. Kauswagan and Rommel were recognized last November with the prestigious International “Policy Oscar” from World Future Council.
Speakers:
Rommel C. Arnado – Mayor – Kauswagan Municipality, Philippines
Jürgen Grässlin – German peace activists
Karen Mapusua – President – IFOAM – Organics International
Edward Mukiibi – President – Slow Food International
Moderator:
Bernward Geier – Director of COLABORA
