During a ceremony held in Oslo from June 20-21 we will finally find out if Dominique Plédel Jónsson, founder and leader of Slow Food Reykjavík and Slow Food in the Nordic Countries, will be declared a winner at the EMBLA Nordic Food Awards. These Nordic Food Awards aim to create visibility for Nordic food and the innovative people behind it, strengthening the knowledge of Nordic food both locally and internationally.

Dominique has been nominated in the category Nordic Food for Many, which is awarded to a person or an organization for their efforts to encourage quality and Nordic food culture.

“Dominique has dedicated 25 years of her life to good, clean and fair food in Iceland and the Nordic Countries on a totally voluntary basis, promoting the Slow Food philosophy and ideals. Her nomination is a recognition of her passion and efforts in promoting local food at home and abroad,” comments Elisa Demichelis, Slow Food Global North Focal Point.

About Dominque Plédel Jónsson

Born in France, Dominique moved to Iceland early in her youth, where she now lives with her family. After ten years spent traveling and studying between Denmark and Norway, Dominique returned to Iceland to open a wide-ranging dialogue with chefs, farmers, producers and schools across the country regarding the necessity of developing local food systems and the importance of good, clean and fair food products for the future of food in Iceland. In 2009 she organized the first local Slow Food event, bringing consumers and producers together. Since then Dominique has been promoting the participation of Icelandic producers at Terra Madre Salone del Gusto, the most important Slow Food event internationally;  in 2018 she was among the founders of a sister event, Terra Madre Nordic, whose second edition will take place from September 1-3, 2022 in Stockholm, Sweden.

Terra Madre Nordic is part of The Road to Terra Madre, a series of initiatives organized by the Slow Food network around the world to pave the way towards the international gathering which takes place in Turin, Italy, from September 22-26 and where participants will design the future of food together.
