Slow Food International Participates at Bristol Food Connections in May with an Ark of Taste Market and a Pop-Up Pizzeria Area

From May 1-11, 2014, the city of Bristol, with its diversity of communities and food cultures, is hosting an event dedicated to food traditions, education, diversity and taste. Slow Food highly welcomes the idea of launching such a festival, firstly due to the city’s proudly maintained culinary heritage and diversity, and secondly because Bristol was chosen as the European Green Capital 2015. The scope of Bristol Food Connections is to highlight good food projects and celebrate artisan products, which coincides entirely with the Slow Food philosophy. The international association of Slow Food is thus honored to be an event partner along with Slow Food UK, as it provides a great opportunity for participants to meet likeminded people, as well as for community and network building.

This festival marks the first time that both Slow Food International and Slow Food UK participate at the same event within the UK. Being held in College Green square from May 3-5, Slow Food’s contribution features an Ark of Taste Market with locally produced British quality products that are at risk of extinction. The market showcases products listed in Slow Food’s Ark of Taste catalogue, which collects small-scale quality productions that belong to the cultures, history and traditions of the entire planet but whose existence is threatened. The Slow Food area also offers traditional Italian pizza in the pop-up pizzeria, as well as workshops to raise awareness about the importance of locally sourced ingredients and the links between taste and environmentally friendly choices:

In addition, the Slow Food Youth Network (SFYN) organizes an EAT-IN, a potluck dinner, in collaboration with the Sustainable Food Trust and Feeding the 5000 to be held in College Green square on Monday May 5 from 12-4 pm. The idea of an Eat-In is to champion good food in public through the spontaneous action of sharing a meal as well as to celebrate food culture and conviviality.
