Slow Food at Hot Docs

04 Apr 2003 | English

Hot Docs, Canada’s foremost documentary festival, and Slow Food come together in the heart of downtown Toronto for a weekend of celebrations, discussions, dinners and taste workshops. The 2003 focus for Hot Docs’ Innovators series, which has honored such organizations as Doctors Without Borders, is Slow Food.

The event kicks off with an Italian-style Slow Food Dinner at Toronto’s celebrated Grano Restaurant. HOT DOCS/ COOL D.O.C.s (VQAs) unites local Slow Food members for a convivial evening of delicious Italian foods and cool-climate wines from the award-winning winery, Malivoire of Niagara.
Sunday morning offers an unprecedented event for Slow Food in Canada: Renato Sardo of Slow Food International, Monyka Berrocosa-Marbach of Slow Food USA and Anita Stewart of Slow Food Ontario will lead a discussion that focuses on the movement abroad and at home while looking at the progress of Slow Food in Canada.

In the afternoon, two taste workshops will allow participants to savor the pleasures of Mapleton’s Organic Dairy ice cream and the fair-trade, freshly roasted beans of Merchants of Green Coffee
