Slow Food Youth Network (SFYN) will leave its footprints in this Terra Madre Salone del Gusto edition with the SFYN TANK: a free, social-design workshop on 5 different food issues with 50 engaging and creative tankers from all over the world, 5 case experts and 6 issue coaches.
Terra Madre Salone del Gusto is Slow Food’s biggest event, an international gathering happening every two years and dedicated to food politics, sustainable agriculture and the environment. This year, it takes place in Parco Dora, Turin, from the 22nd to the 26th of September and is urgently themed #RegenerAction. Check out #TerraMadre2022 on Instagram!
The SFYN team has its dedicated spot at the event, and has organized many interactive activities for all its international supporters coming from all across the world. This year SFYN has decided to bring back a well received social event adding to the knowledge sharing experience for all the visitors: the SFYN TANK, located at the Berta Cáceres Arena. SFYN TANK happens with 50 tankers for a grand total of 10 full hours of debating, brainstorming, storytelling and prototyping to figure out how to solve the selected social problems.
The 5 chosen tank issues are:
- ‘Set aside the pesticide’ – chosen by our Swedish collaborators based on the presence of the problematic in Sweden;
- ‘Decriminalise food sovereignty in Kenya’ – chosen by SFYN Kenya to raise awareness on their situation on the matter;
- ‘Support your local food chain’ – chosen by SFYN Mexico, focused on the relation between large scale monocultures and local agriculture;
- ‘Food deliveries: raising the bar’ – chosen by SFYN Tokyo due to the high demand of food deliveries in the country;
- ‘Protect the ancestral peoples of the sea and mangroves’ – chosen by Slow Food Ecuador, as an invite to be aware and take a solidarity action.
With the will to make an impact on our global food system through the open exchange of expertise, original thinking and a design approach, the community has been asking for food issues that youth would have been interested in for the last months. After some time, SFYN communities selected the 5 final food issues they will be discussing about, and the tankers that will make their voices heard.
“I am extremely excited to work with a multidisciplinary international team on an issue that’s so close to our hearts – in my case short food supply chains – helping out fellow activists across the globe. I’m convinced we’ll end up with innovative solutions, since we all have different perspectives because of our background, culture and history.”
– Raúl Mondragón, Mexico
Just like SFYN did with their ‘’Disco Soup’’ movement, SFYN Tank shows the power of having good ideas and being surrounded with motivated and creative people. This year’s SFYN TANK has already proved to be a success, gathering way more interest than available places. Check out www.sfyntank.org to find out the exact SFYN tank program for each day!
