Second annual culinary festival will focus on food as a solution to climate change
WHAT: Slow Food Nations will return to Denver, CO this July as the three-day festival of flavor, culture, and exploration. From the Taste Marketplace and outdoor street cafe to workshops and engaging family fun, the event will take over Larimer Square in downtown Denver. Kicking off with an opening party featuring the best of Colorado, the weekend activities invite eaters to connect with farmers, artisans, and chefs.
The theme for the 2018 festival is “Food for Change,” and select talks and special events will focus on food as a cause, victim, and delicious solution to climate change. This event was created to bring a taste of Italy’s wildly popular Terra Madre Salone del Gusto to the United States.
WHO: 20,000 people will experience the event over the course of the weekend— a mix of Slow Food leaders from around North America, small-scale producers, high-profile leaders from the food movement, and the general public.
WHEN: July 13-15, 2018
WHERE: Larimer Square and Other Locations in Downtown Denver, Colorado
COST: Free for general admission and select talks; ticketed for workshops and other events. Tickets are available starting in mid-April.
- Zero Waste Dinner: Chefs will serve up a family style meal using food waste captured at the festival. Tickets will be available for the public.
- Taste Marketplace: 100 exhibitors of good, clean and fair food will be featured in the tasting area to tell their stories, offer samples and sell their products. This will feature food and libations locally sourced from throughout Colorado.
- Local breweries, craft distilleries, and wineries will feature tastes of slow beverages.
- Instructional workshops, talks, and guided dinners.
- Thematic summits that focus on food as cause, victim and solution of climate change. They include animal agriculture, grassroots leadership, natural disasters, food waste, chefs and biodiversity.
