Cheese is back in Bra, Piedmont, from September 20 to 23, 2013. The international biennial event organized by the City of Bra and Slow Food is now in its ninth edition. Dedicated to “milk in all its shapes and forms,” it has created an international network of cheesemakers and artisans who gather in Bra every two years to present their products, meet co-producers, discuss old and new challenges of the trade, discuss existing laws and regulations and market prospects.
As in all previous editions, the Cheese Market is the heart of the event, with hundreds of Italian and foreign producers who bring together quality and respect for the environment and for the people involved in production. Among the streets and squares of Bra, the Via degli affinatori (the street of affineurs) will also be back.
The guests of honor at the Market, the Great Hall of Cheese and the Taste Workshops are the Slow Food Presidia from dozens of countries. Some small-scale productions safeguarded by the Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity will be presented for the very first time. After the great success at Cheese 2011, the Pizza Piazza is also coming back to show and celebrate the alliance between pizza makers and Presidia. In addition to the classic Margherita and Verace pizza, visitors will be able to try other recipes made with the products safeguarded and promoted by Slow Food.
Everything will be accompanied by beers from the microbreweries included in the guide to Italian beers published by Slow Food Editore, and the best vintages from the winemakers who join the Progetto Vino.
The Slow Food Education program is packed with events for kids and adults to learn by having fun, such as the special Masters of Food on cheese and the taste itineraries for school groups.
For those who want to taste local and international specialties in prestigious places – historical residences and restaurants in the Langa and Roero areas – the Dinner Dates cannot be missed. No visit to Cheese is complete without a stop at the many refreshment points: the Street Food area, where visitors can take a gastronomic tour of Italy enjoying quick traditional snacks, and the Tasting Booths, where they can sit down, relax and taste the dishes from various Italian regions.
The Milk Workshops are an opportunity for debate and in-depth analysis: experts and actors from the sector will discuss its main issues with the public and present new experiences, using a simple, straightforward and accessible language.
The program of the event will be published in June 2013 and made available on www.slowfood.com
