BEAUTIFOOD project methodology
The BEAUTIFOOD project aims to bridge the gap between citizens and institutions on environmental issues related to food through a comprehensive and interactive methodology.
This methodology operates on three levels of engagement to ensure a broad and impactful reach:
Informing & Opinion Polling
The first level focuses on engaging the public through creative and captivating events. These include themed games, interactive exhibitions, and surveys designed to gather citizens’ opinions on key environmental and food-related topics. By using simple surveys and questionnaires, we collect valuable insights from the public, making their voices heard and their concerns noted.
Dialogue with Local/Regional Institutions
The second level moves beyond public opinion gathering to active dialogue. We organize workshops and debates with local decision-makers, discussing the issues raised by citizens during public events. This level ensures that the collected public opinions are not only heard but also considered in policy discussions at the local and regional levels.
Feeding the EU Policy Process
The final level involves presenting the results from the citizen-decision maker dialogues to European institutions. This is achieved through a roundtable discussion in Brussels, where the findings from the five participating countries are showcased. This process strengthens the connection between local and European decision-makers via the BELC platform, promoting a cohesive approach to sustainable food policies.
Why a Unified Communication Strategy Matters
A unified communication strategy across all events and platforms is crucial for the success of the BEAUTIFOOD project. By maintaining consistent messaging and branding, we can amplify the project’s visibility and impact. Clear, coherent communication helps to engage a wider audience, build trust, and ensure that the project’s objectives are understood and supported by all stakeholders. It also facilitates the dissemination of findings and recommendations, encouraging action at both local and European levels.
Practical Communication Strategies for Public and Decision-Maker Engagement
For public engagement events, the communication strategy should focus on raising awareness and encouraging participation. Utilize social media platforms, websites, and newsletters to promote upcoming events, share real-time updates, and highlight key takeaways. Visual content, such as photos and videos from events, can capture attention and convey the project’s activities effectively. Engaging narratives and stories about participants’ experiences can further enhance public interest and involvement.
When targeting decision-makers, the strategy should emphasize the importance and relevance of the gathered data and citizen opinions. Use detailed reports, policy briefs, and formal presentations to convey findings. Organize targeted outreach efforts, such as direct emails and invitations to key events like the Brussels roundtable. Collaborate with strategic partners to leverage their networks and ensure that the insights and recommendations reach the appropriate policymakers.
By implementing these strategies, the BEAUTIFOOD project can effectively engage both the public and decision-makers, fostering a collaborative effort towards a more sustainable food system.
