Engaging and Educating: Formats Used in the BEAUTIFOOD Project
The educational path encompasses three formats:
Edutainement
Edutainment blends education with entertainment, making learning enjoyable and impactful. The BEAUTIFOOD project incorporates several edutainment formats:
- Escape Room: a themed escape room designed around the concept of Terra Madre, engaging participants in solving puzzles related to sustainable food practices. Shortening the food supply chain, reducing animal protein consumption, and cutting down on waste are crucial for the future of European cities, aiming for a better, cleaner, fairer, and more beautiful future. In the Escape Room, citizens play and propose ideas, suggesting ways to improve the food system, such as more markets, buying groups, or campaigns in restaurants.
- Game of the Goose on Food Aid: an interactive board game that educates players about food aid mechanisms and challenges, enhancing their understanding through playful learning.
- Lost in the Supermarket Experience: acreative event where participants navigate a simulated supermarket, learning about sustainable choices and the impact of their purchasing decisions.
- Interactive Games: various games that involve participants in learning about food sustainability through engaging and interactive methods.
Consumer-Producer Relationships:
Strengthening the relationship between consumers and producers is crucial for promoting sustainable food systems. The project includes:
- Barcelona Street Festival: a vibrant market event in Barcelona where local producers showcase their products, fostering direct interactions between consumers and producers.
- Copenhagen Market: an event where participants can buy food directly from farmers, enhancing transparency and trust in the food supply chain.
- Agroecology Festival: a festival in the Netherlands that celebrates sustainable farming practices and brings together producers and consumers to share knowledge and experiences.
Artistic and Creative Dimensions:
Art and creativity play a significant role in conveying powerful messages and inspiring change. The project leverages artistic expressions through:
- Workshops with Artists: Collaborative workshops where artists and participants create artworks in preparation for the Parade, an event that highlights the beauty and importance of sustainable food systems.
Social Empowerment Movements and Demonstrative Actions:
Empowering communities and demonstrating sustainable practices are key to driving social change. The project supports:
- Agroecology Festival: Besides consumer-producer interactions, the festival also includes activities that empower participants with knowledge about agroecological practices.
- Parade: A creative and demonstrative march that showcases the collective commitment to sustainable food systems, involving various stakeholders in a powerful display of solidarity.
- Civic Workshop on Food Waste: A participative workshop aimed at educating citizens about food waste reduction, encouraging community-driven solutions and actions.
These diverse formats ensure that the BEAUTIFOOD project reaches a wide audience, fostering a comprehensive understanding of sustainable food systems and inspiring collective action towards a more sustainable future. Through engaging activities, artistic expressions, and demonstrative events, the project not only educates but also empowers participants to become advocates for sustainability in their communities.
