Many of Slovenia’s finest artisan producers will show off their gastronomic delights tomorrow at the third edition of ‘Slovenija Užitkov – Slovenia Golosa’, organised by Slow Food Primorska (Slovenia) and Slow Food Trieste (Italy). This event, which will be held at Trattoria Sardoc in Triest, is just one of the many new events coming out of the Primorska convivium, highlighting their commitment and proactive approach to the goals of Slow Food in Slovenia.
Attendees will have the opportunity to taste and learn about the wide variety of foods in Slovenia. With boundaries stretching from the Mediterranean coast to the alpine mountains, from the Karst to the hills of the Hungarian border, Slovenia boasts a diversity of climates and terroirs. This translates into very rich food cultures and traditions. Salt from Piran evaporation ponds, artisan beers from central Slovenia, seabass from local quality sea-water aquaculture are just some of the products available for tasting. The event will also showcase wines from Pohorje hillsides, in the North-East, where the Drava and Sava rivers help to form a mild climate that is suitable for white wine production, including the local grape variety Rizvanec.
This event is not only about tasting Slovenia’s wonderful foods. There will be a conference as part of the event, held by Slow Food members from both convivia involving local authorities and civil society organisations, to discuss ways to sustain local artisan and traditional food production. ‘Slovenija Užitkov – Slovenia Golosa’ is sponsored by the General Consulate of the Republic of Slovenia in Trieste, the Municipality of Duino Aurisina, and the Bank of Cividale.
