France: The Case Study

This case study, developed within the broader work of Foodinsider and Slow Food, explores the transformation of the school catering system in Dordogne, France—a rural and economically disadvantaged region that has become a model of innovation. Through a strong political vision and community engagement, Dordogne has introduced 100% organic, locally sourced meals cooked from scratch in school kitchens. This shift not only improves the quality of food but also strengthens local food systems, supports farmers, and reinforces the idea of food as a common good.
