Vignerons d’Europe

13 Apr 2007

The major event ‘Salon du Goût et des Saveurs d’Origine’, organized by Slow Food France in collaboration with ‘les vignerons des Coteaux du Languedoc, begins today at the Parc des Expositions in Montpellier and will carry on through until Monday (April 13-16). Now in its third edition, the Salon will feature, among other attractions, a market, taste workshops and an enoteca.

This year, in conjunction with the event, Slow Food has also organized ‘Vignerons d’Europe’ (April 14-15) at the Montpellier congress center, a meeting that will bring together 1,000 winegrowers to discuss the European Commission’s project for viticultural reform and search for solutions to protect the diversity of European vineyards.

Represented in this, the centenary of the 1907 winemakers’ revolt in Languedoc and Roussillon, will be not the owners of large-scale wineries, but the winegrowers themselves, people with a strong bond with the soil, the vines and the terroir. The ultimate aim of the get-together is to open a debate about the current viticultural crisis, one not just of economics but also of identity.
