Verona, Vines and Wines

Vinitaly, the international wine showcase, the biggest of its kind in the world, starts today in Verona and will continue until Monday April 7. Now in its 42nd year, the event will welcome over 4,300 exhibitors — importers, distributors, caterers, technicians, journalists and opinion leaders —from over 30 countries across the globe.

Special features this year will include ‘Tasting Ex…Press’, presentations on international wines from leading magazines; ‘Trendy Oggi, Big Domani’, up-and-coming companies investing in the future; ‘Taste Italy’, a special tasting for 5,000 international journalists and buyers; ‘Designer Restaurants’, special demonstrations from top Italian chefs; ‘Citadel of Gastronomy’, the finest regional Italian cuisine. The list goes on …

As always, Slow Food will be present (Pavilion 9, Stand E4-F4), with a packed daily program of book presentations, workshops and tastings, all focusing on the idea of conviviality and the promotion of ‘good, clean and fair’ food.

On Saturday April 5 at 2pm, at Ca’ Scapin at Santa Maria di Zevio (Verona), Nicolas Joly, a biodynamic winemaker, will present his book La vigna, il vino e la biodinamica (The vineyard, the wine and biodynamics), published by Slow Food Editore. Carlo Petrini, president of Slow Food, will attend, along with other prominent figures and members of the Renaissance des AOC and the Triple A wine movements.

On Sunday April 6 at 11am, a press conference on ‘International job mobility through training in Piedmontese wineries’, organized by Slow Food and the Italian Ministry of Employment.

True to tradition, the Slow Food Osteria d’Italia will serve wines and dishes from several Italian regions, including Piedmont, Puglia, Tuscany, Trentino, Lazio, Veneto and Abruzzo.
