Twelve Tales at the Table
15 Jul 2008
Rodale Publishing has just announced that it will publish Come to the Table: The Slow Food Way of Living in anticipation of the Slow Food Nation event to be held in San Francisco at the end of August.
Documenting twelve meals through the stories and recipes of farming and artisan families, Come to the Table connects readers with producers who are working to maintain local food networks and introduces them to the Slow Food philosophy.
The book’s authors, Slow Food Nation Board President Katrina Heron, Executive Director Anya Fernald and journalists Carol Ness and Nathaniel Johnson, tell the story of individual meals, each hosted by a different artisan or farming family in the California countryside.
‘There are consequences to the decisions we make every day about what we eat. If we support the people who take care of the land, cook the food ourselves and come back to the table, we will discover a delicious way of life,’ says Alice Waters, author of the foreword, founder of Slow Food Nation and Slow Food International vice-president.
‘Seminal books like Fast Food Nation and The Omnivore’s Dilemma have highlighted the sometimes disturbing process by which our food reaches us. Come to the Table is a vital contribution to this ongoing conversation,’ said editor Shannon Welch. ‘In addition to providing inspiringly beautiful photos of Californian farms and recipes we’ve adapted from the farmers themselves, the book casts light on important, impactful alternatives in the way we eat and the way we think about what we eat.’
Come to the Table will be published by Rodale, an international media company with a focus on the health and wellness of the individual, community and planet, and will be available in US shops from September 16 2008. Rodale is a major sponsor of the Slow Food Nation event, the largest celebration of American food in history, to be held in San Francisco during Labor Day Weekend from August 29 through September 1 2008.
