Tuscany Hosts International Councilors Meeting

11 Jun 2009

The Slow Food International Presidency and the International Councilors are meeting this weekend, June 12 -14, at Alberese, in the province of Grosseto, Tuscany. Forty representatives of the Association, coming from twenty countries around the world, will discuss the key strategies for the future of Slow Food, with a particular focus on further development of the Terra Madre network, the increasingly important involvement of young people, and implementing projects to protect biodiversity and promote food education.

The Region of Tuscany has been extremely active in projects aligned with the Slow Food philosophy, and is the Founding Partner and Honorary Member of the Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity. The southern, coastal Province of Grosseto makes an ideal setting for the meeting, boasting a remarkable tradition in food and wine production.

The Councilors will be hosted by the Orbetello Fishermen’s Cooperative on Saturday evening, the home of the Orbetello Bottarga Presidium and partners in various projects to support Presidia and Terra Madre food communities around the world, in particular the Imraguen Women’s Mullet Bottarga Presidium from Mauritania. During their stay, they will also enjoy the hospitality of the Cantina Rocca di Montemassi in Roccastrada.

The meeting has been made possible thanks to the work of many volunteers from Slow Food Tuscany, once again showing this region’s keen support and promotion of the themes of Terra Madre and the international development of our Association. The meeting is also being made possible thanks to the great support from the Grosseto Municipality and the Albarese Citizens Association.
