Taste for Reading
05 May 2006
The International Book Fair is held on May 4-8 in Turin. The city is UNESCO World Book Capital 2006-2007 in conjunction with Rome. The recognition, assigned for the first time in 2001, was awarded to the city for its contribution to the literary world.
In the two Slow Food Editore areas of the fair, one a small literary café, the other a books and gadgets sales point, five days of presentations, seminars and tastings will take place. The fair is also an opportunity for celebrating the movement’s twentieth birthday with the Vent’anni di Slow Food Italia seminar featuring many of Slow Food history’s key players, from the poet Folco Portinari to Giorgio Bert and Silvio Barbero.
This year’s Terra Madre and Salone del Gusto events will also be premiered in the area this afternoon (Friday May 5).
On Sunday May 7 at 3pm, in an event organized by Slow Food, George Ritzer will present his book The Globalization of Nothing, published in Italian as La globalizzazione del nulla by Slow Food Editore as part of its Terra Madre library.
The distinguished American sociologist and University Professor at the University of Maryland, also author of McDonaldization of Society and Enchanting a Disenchanted World, will discuss the theories developed in his books with Carlo Petrini, Slow Food President, Guido Viale, environmentalist and author, and Giacomo Mojoli, coordinator at the University of Gastronomic Sciences.
