Support for Valencia
06 Nov 2024
A week after floods in Spain devastated several municipalities in Valencia province, searches for missing persons, repair of infrastructure, restoration of services and clean-up operations continue. The center coordinating the disaster response has put the death toll in the Valencian Community at more than 215.
Crops, villages and communities were devastated by the violence of these torrential rains, which once again showed us the effects of climate change on our planet and the need to take urgent measures to preserve the Earth before it really is too late.
he Slow Food network in Valencia, supported by many activists and communities of our movement in Spain, immediately took action through various initiatives. One of these involves the restaurant La Cantina de Ruzafa in Valencia, where local cooks from the Slow Food Cook’s Alliance, together with many volunteers have converted the restaurant into a kitchen for the victims and transformed it into a collection point for donation of any kind of goods. “At present we need everything, from food to personal hygiene products. We are impressed by the cooperation and solidarity of the villagers, as well as by the amount of young people who made themselves available to organize the collection and distribution,” Eva Davó and Jaume Vilà comment.
