Slow Showcase
20 Jun 2008
Slow Food UK and the BBC Good Food Show formed a new partnership this year to give producers of quality, traditional foods and beverages the chance to promote their products to a large, diverse audience at four high-profile fairs throughout 2008.
The first of these, BBC Good Food Show Summer, was held last week over June 11 – 15 and will be followed later in the year with shows in Birmingham, Glasgow and London, together attracting over 300,000 people.
Each event will feature a Slow Food pavilion, offering a number of stands for exemplary producers at significantly reduced rates through a Bursary for outstanding producers support by both organizations.
‘Slow Food UK’s presence at the Summer Show was a resounding success, and proved to be an excellent opportunity to spread the Slow Food message to a diverse audience,’ commented Slow Food UK Coordinator Fiona Richmond.
‘The taste workshops were a sell-out and the feedback we have received from participants and producers has been hugely encouraging. It was very satisfying to be able to support small producers in this way, and give visitors the chance to learn about, taste and enjoy good, clean and fair produce,’ Richmond said.
Each show will include a program of Slow Food Taste Workshops, drawing on the association’s rich and diverse knowledge and experience of educating the public about the pleasures and tastes of quality food and drink.
Workshops at last week’s event included Somerset Raw Milk Cheese for Summer, The Best of British Fish, Discovering Cornish Veal and Cider and A Celebration of Old Gloucester Cattle.
Nathan Garnett, Event Presenter for the BBC Good Food Show commented: ‘This is a very exciting time for those of us who are keen to protect our rich food heritage. We are delighted to be working with Slow Food, who will add amazing content to our events, and help us educate thousands about the importance of protecting our food culture’.
