Slow Lleida
20 Oct 2009
The Slow Lleida fair, organized by Slow Food Terres de Lleida on the first weekend of October, presented ethical and ecological consumption of food, with a particular focus on health. This two-day Catalan event addressed various issues around how we can both protect the earth and pay attention to our health, looking at ways in which we can encourage ecological production and economic activity that meets these needs.
Lleida’s Palau de Vidre was the venue for a packed program that included an Earth Market, workshops for children, and tastings of organic meat, dairy produce, native Amazon cocoa and more. There was also a range of lectures by academics, experts and politicians, such as Mali’s Minister for Agriculture, on various subjects: medicine and agriculture, recovering native breeds, alternative therapies, environmental crises and GMOs.
Visitors queued to buy organic artisan produce directly from the producers at the market, which dedicated a whole section to medicinal plants and their properties, and there were also nutritional experts availalble to give advice to visitors on how to choose a healthy balanced diet.
