Slow Food at the Third Global Meeting of the Indigenous Peoples’ Forum at IFAD

Today marks the the opening day of the third Global Meeting of the Indigenous Peoples’ Forum at IFAD. The Forum will take place in Rome from February 10-13, 2017 and will focus on the  economic empowerment of indigenous peoples, particularly women and youth.

On Monday February 13th Slow Food will host a reception for the Forum participants using the white carob flour from Gran Chaco Wild Fruits as the main ingredient. The reception is organized together with the Permanent Representative of Argentina at the FAO, IFAD, WFP, and the UCAR of the Argentinian Ministry of Agriculture.

The partnership between Slow Food and IFAD aims to create a stable platform for all indigenous communities to defend their right to food sovereignty and biocultural diversity. We work together to advocate for smallholder farmers and build a shared discussion space for indigenous peoples within the overall Terra Madre network. This has led to IFAD’s participation in several international Terra Madre events and its support in the creation of Indigenous Terra Madre network as well as projects on the ground.

Indigenous Terra Madre is led and organized by indigenous peoples’ communities and comprised of farmers, herders, hunters, gatherers, pastoralists, and fishing communities who face severe institutional threats to their social, cultural, environmental and economic practices.
