Slow Food Notion

12 Jun 2007

As part of the UK launch of his newly published book Slow Food Nation – Why our food should be Good, Clean and Fair, Carlo Petrini delivered the inaugural Future of Food annual lecture last Friday at London’s Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufacture and Commerce.

In his speech, Petrini, the founder of the Slow Food movement, typically addressed the audience about the future of food from the perspectives of environment and agriculture and the three Slow principles of ‘good, clean and fair’. Zac Goldsmith, director of The Ecologist, and Professor Tim Lang, Professor of Food Policy at City University, also made presentations.

The event was organized with the support of The Ecologist, the best know environmental magazine in the world, and sponsored by Daylesford Organic, a company dedicated to growing, producing and cooking ‘real food’ on its two fully organic certified estates in Gloucestershire and Staffordshire.

On Saturday Petrini continued his UK tour, signing copies of his Slow Food Nation in the farmshop at Daylesford Organic, near Kingham, Gloucestershire, while yesterday he attended the official he will be signing more copies at The Natural Kitchen, restaurant on Marylebone High Street, London.
Petrini will be staying in Britain until the end of the week. His program will include a visit to HRH The Prince of Wales’ country estate at Highgrove, Gloucestershire, and a tour of the surrounding Duchy Home Farm.
