Slow Food in the Caribbean

27 May 2015

From May 30 to June 3, the 2015 meeting of the Slow Food Caribbean network will take place in the Dominican Republic.

The proposal for the meeting came about during the Slow Food Caribbean regional meeting at Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre 2014, with the objective to strengthen the links within the network, promote exchanges of experience and determine common projects.

Twenty-five representatives of the network are expected to participate, coming from Cuba, Porto Rico, Trinidad, Costa Rica, Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands and Venezuela (via videoconference). Slow Food members in the Dominican Republic, in particular the Chavon/Yuma Convivium are collaborating in the organization of the event and hosting participants.

The program includes discussions on topics such as the development of the Ark of Taste project in the Caribbean, the creation of the Slow Food Youth Network, and participation at Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre 2016. The participants will also include take part in visits to food communities and school gardens, and eco-tourism experiences.
