Slow Food at the European Parliament

At a crucial moment in discussions on European food policy, Slow Food is holding a conference in the European Parliament in Brussels. Taking place on November 28, the event brings civil society organizations together with representatives from the European institutions to enable an exchange of views on the future of the European food system.

Why now?

For the first time, the European Commission is working towards an EU Communication on Sustainable Food. An important milestone in the move towards a more resource-efficient food system in Europe, and beyond; Slow Food is actively encouraging the initiative, as well as the efforts of the Commission to open up the debate on this topic.

During the conference, a diversity of speakers will present their views in a panel discussion. Slow Food founder Carlo Petrini will close the event, calling on policy makers to take a more holistic view of the food system, and to make food sustainability a top priority.

From 3 pm in front of the Parliament building (Place du Luxembourg), the local chapter Slow Food Brussels is organizing a producers market, offering local cheeses, fair-trade chocolate and Belgian wines. The Slow Food Youth Network will also be organizing a so-called Disco Soup to raise awareness of the growing problem of food waste.
