Slow Food and Paratissima Collaborate to Promote Shared Values

05 Jun 2024

The partnership, funded by Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation, has put out an international call for artists: photographers, illustrators, graphic designers and performers are invited to explore the theme of the 2024 Terra Madre event

Slow Food and the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation share a commitment to building the future of a fairer, more cohesive society, working together for inclusion, sustainable development cooperation and global citizenship. This year, these shared goals are being brought to life in the 2024 edition of Terra Madre, the Slow Food network’s biggest international event. The two organizations have chosen an innovative way of communicating, using art to create an emotional connection with people and positively convey complex content. By addressing the environmental and social issues linked to the unsustainability of the current food system through the evocative language of art, they aim to create an emotional, rather than anxiety-inducing, link with visitors. This approach will help the public understand complicated problems and offer insights into the solutions proposed by Slow Food.

In a world where food is a fundamental point of convergence for cultures and individuals, it is essential to address the delicate balance characterizing our relationship with food.

Through a language aimed at creating emotional connections, these issues will be explored without falling into either naive optimism or blanket pessimism. An honest and realistic view of the current situation will be offered, without hiding the challenges we face. While data and statistics provide the factual framework, the immersive experience of an Art Exhibition can offer a space to reflect on the complex and often contradictory realities of our food system.

The Terra Madre International Call for Artists

Paratissima has launched an international call for young emerging artists to create an Art Exhibition at Terra Madre 2024. This exhibition will showcase a synergy between the selected artists and invited artists, reflecting a diversity of visions.

Hosted at Parco Dora, the Art Exhibition will immerse visitors in the complex environmental and social challenges related to our food system.

Terra Madre Salone del Gusto 2024 aims to restore a healthy balance between humans and nature. Food is a crucial link, connecting us not only to nature but also to culture. Slow Food’s objectives, highlighted at Terra Madre Salone del Gusto, pave the way for a healthier relationship with nature through food. Food reconnects us to the earth, soil and sea and is an integral part of our identity, serving as the perfect tool to reshape the bond between nature and culture. The Art Exhibition will offer a chance to delve into the complex environmental and social challenges tied to our food system.

Visual artists who wish to submit works created with photography, illustration, digital collages, digital graphic works, and AI images, as well as performers, have an exciting opportunity to participate in Terra Madre Salone del Gusto 2024 by submitting their applications by July 15, 2024.

Selected participants will showcase their work at the Art Exhibition, launching on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Parco Dora in Turin, and closing on Monday, September 30, 2024. The application process and subsequent participation are free of charge, and artists may be eligible for expense reimbursements depending on specific circumstances.
