Slow Fish 2015 Website Goes Live!

From May 14 – 17, the coastal city of Genoa in northern Italy will once again host Slow Food’s international event dedicated to sustainable fishing: Slow Fish.

Taking place every two years, the event celebrates the diversity of fishing and culinary cultures found around the Mediterranean. It also aims to strengthen the Slow Fish Mediterranean network by helping fishing communities raise a unique common voice when facing challenges such as pollution and industrial overfishing.

Delegates from over 15 countries are expected at this year’s event, along with seafood-lovers from around the world, who will gather in the city’s old port area to meet producers and fishmongers; learn more about artisanal fishing and of course… eat fish!

Visitors will not only have the chance to discover and sample a huge diversity of fish (many not commonly used in everyday cooking), but also salt, spices, extra-virgin olive oil, pesto, beer and wine – including many local specialties from the region of Liguria.

Now in its seventh edition, this year’s event will give special attention to the problems of pollution and the shortage of young people who are replacing older retiring fishers. It will also examine issues related to governance, using local ecological knowledge and involving local communities.

As with all Slow Food events, education is high on the agenda, with a packed program of interactive workshops, presentations and conferences dedicated to creating a greater awareness of the importance of our choices and behavior in determining the state of health of the seas.
