Slow Fish 2009 Opens Tomorrow

Tomorrow sees the opening of Slow Fish, the event dedicated to fish and sustainable fishing held over four days in the Genoa Fiera.
As the final preparations were taking place in the Pavilion B, a press conference was held to preview the event’s fourth edition and highlight this year’s innovations.

Despite being organized with a smaller budget, Slow Fish 2009 is 30% bigger than Slow Fish 2007, with 24,000 square meters compared to 18,000 two years ago. Half of this space will be used for non-commercial activities like education, exhibitions, displays and so on.

New in 2009 is “Good Practices,” a display space dedicated to businesses and initiatives that can provide visitors with information and practical solutions for saving water and electricity, eco-friendly ways of preserving and cooking foods, recycling – in short, valuable tips for a sustainable lifestyle.
The Genoa Fiera will also host screenings from Slow Food on Film, the food and film festival held in May in Bologna. Music will come from eight concerts on the seafront, as the new pavilion designed by architect Jean Nouvel, where Slow Fish will be held, looks out directly over the Mediterranean. After its success at Salone del Gusto 2008, Street Food will make a reappearance, and of course the Slow Food Presidia will also be present, with a total of 27 represented.

And so the pavilion awaits the opening of Slow Fish 2009, the exhibition of sustainable fishing, whose message of care for the environment and respect for our seas is needed now more than ever before.
