SLOW FISH 2007 – End Of The Fair

EXCLUSIVE – Slow Fish 2007, the event dedicated to fishing, the sea and related issues, organized by Slow Food in conjunction with the Liguria Regional Authority, came to an end yesterday. Over its four-day duration, the event attracted a total of 46,000 visitors, more than the last edition in 2005, when admission was free.

The participation of young people was particularly high, an indicator perhaps of how concerned they are about defense of the environment and how aware they are of the pleasure of educated taste.

Slow Fish concluded with a press conference attended by Claudio Burlando, President of the Liguria Regional Authority, Roberto Burdese, President of Slow Food Italy, the regional spokespersons for Agriculture, Tourism and the Environment, respectively Giancarlo Cassini, Margherita Bozzano and Franco Zunino, and Roberto Urbani, the managing director of the Genoa Fair Complex, where the event was held.

‘The project has proved once again that it works,’ said Burlando,’ reinforcing in a unique context the defense of typicality and the produce of our seas, the protection of biodiversity and the defense of international fishing communities.’

Roberto Burdese identified the key themes that emerged in the Genoa meeting: ‘The strong link between gastronomy and the environment has been confirmed. This is the fulcrum of our association’s philosophy and at the same time one of the fundamental issues for our future’.

Over the next few weeks, Slow Food will compile a dossier containing all the reports and testimonies from the event. The documentation will be made posted for public consultation on the websites www.slowfood.it and www.slowfish.it.
