Sharing Farmers’ Knowledge

19 Mar 2010

A day to celebrate and support local and small-scale farmers will take place this Sunday March 21, with an expected 600-1000 people gathering in the Belgian city of Liège to celebrate the Terra Madre network. Organized by the Slow Food Liège convivium in partnership with the City of Liège, visitors will be able to experience a market featuring local producers and their produce, presentations of initiatives by local small-scale farmers, artists’ corners, short film screenings as well as meetings, speeches and debates. The day also marks the beginning of the ‘International Week of Solidarity’ organized by the city, a week of events aiming to draw attention to future international challenges and solutions.

“The day will allow us to discuss improvements to the food production system as well as models of small-scale sustainable food production,” said the Slow Food Liège convivium leader. “We hope to be able to connect different communities and stimulate the growth of a network that can strengthen local economies. Terra Madre is a way that we can come together and exchange experiences, share our hopes and difficulties, forge new relationships, and join together in working towards our common goals”.
