Red de Cocineros Slow

22 May 2009

The Slow Food network of cooks in Argentina held their inagural national meeting over April 27 to 29, 2009, in Mar Del Plata. Called ‘Cooks of the Earth’, the meeting provided an opporunity to discuss their work and opportunities to encourage more cooks to take a sustasinable approach to food across the country.

The Terra Madre Network of Argentinean Cooks was founded in February 2007 to bring together chefs who are focused on using natural, sustainable and regional ingredients.

They have since written a manifesto which states their belief that culture and cuisine are connected on a basic level; that Argentina’s regional cuisines and products should be treasured; and the importance of protecting biodiversity, being socially responsible and encouraging pleasure through food.

The cooks also decided on an ambitious goal for 2009. They want to double the size of the organization and hope to do this by spreading their message through Argentina’s network of culinary schools.

The meeting was organized with assistance from Slow Food Mar Del Plata.
