Oh Honey, Honey
05 Dec 2008
EXCLUSIVE – Today and tomorrow (December 5-6), a seminar will be held at the Italian Cultural Institute in Addis Abeba on the quality of honey.
One of the aims of the meeting is to promote the project for an Ethiopian national network of honey communities based on the knowledge and experience of the two Slow Food presidia in the country: the Wenchi Vulcano Honey Presidium and the Wukro White Honey Presidium.
The meeting will be attended by about 50 representatives of Ethiopian honey communities, students at the Italian school in Ethiopia, members of institutions, local authorities and journalists.
Speakers will include Diego Pagani (president of Conapi, the Italian National Association of Apiculturists), Lucia Piana (president of Apishare, an Italian honey sevrice company), Miressa Himeskel Igo (president of WETA, the Wenchi Eco-Turism Association, and coordinator of the Wenchi Vulcano Honey Presdium), Haleka Alem Abreha (President of the Selam Environmental development Association and coordinator of the Wukro White Honey Association), local technicians who collaborate with the ‘Modena per gli Altri’ association and Ethiopian apiculturists.
The seminar, organized by the Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity with the support of the Piedmont Regional Authority, will include lectures on the honey supply chain, quality and the market, as well as comparative tastings and demonstrations.
