EXCLUSIVE – The Italian NGO CEFA (European Committee for Training and Agriculture), the Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity and Fairtrade Italia are combining to set up a permanent European observatory on biodiversity, sustainable agriculture and fair trade.
The project, which will be co-funded by the European Union, aims to make the general public aware about sustainable agriculture and the problems of the South of the world, thus facilitating relations between poor and developed countries. It was officially launched yesterday and will last for three years.
In the course of the project a permanent observatory will be set up on the subjects of the protection of biodiversity, sustainable agriculture and the promotion and certification of fair trade products.
Public information and sensitization activities will also be promoted during the international events organized by Slow Food, starting with Slow Fish in Genoa in June.
The Bologna-based CEFA is a non-government international voluntary organization which promotes cooperation for development. It is officially recognized by the Italian government, by the European Union and by the international agencies of the United Nations.
