SFYN Summer school 2020: applications are open!

A unique opportunity to dive into Mexican biodiversity

After the success of the SFYN Agri-food choices winter school in Kenya, the Slow Food Youth Network, is organizing the second training camp dedicated to international youth.

The program will take place from June 29th to July 11th 2020, in collaboration with Slow Food Mexico, SFYN Mexico, the Autonomous Popular University of the State of Puebla and the University of Sciences and Arts of Chiapas.

The summer school Protegiendo la biodiversidad cultural y gastronómica en México (protecting cultural and gastronomic biodiversity in Mexico) will be held in strict contact with local Slow Food communities between the states of Chiapas and Puebla. During thirteen days, the participants will have the chance to immerse in the Mexican food culture. Good knowledge of Spanish language is a requirement.

The workshop will bring together young food activists and students, Mexican and international, and will provide you with the necessary tools to promote diversity and the transmission of knowledge at the cultural, social and gastronomic levels in order to develop constructive critical thinking to question and improve the current food system.

This is the opportunity for you to develop work experiences in global contexts that can serve as a comparative exercise, to demonstrate what similarities and dissimilarities exist in the efforts of youth to safeguard cultural and food heritage.

Based on concrete case studies, you will be guided to the formulation of alternative solutions and policies and will be pushed into a decision-making processes to turn their plans into actions.Through workshops and discussions, you will be trained on how to advocate for a more sustainable development of the food system.
