In Memory of Jan Wolf
13 Aug 2009

Slow Food Netherland’s President and member of the Slow Food International Board of Directors Jan Wolf sadly passed away yesterday, following a long illness. The many individuals who have encountered Jan through his tireless work with Slow Food over the past years will miss him dearly in his home country, as will his colleagues from Slow Food around the world.
Jan founded the Slow Food Hague convivium in 2004 and has been continuously involved in building Slow Food’s strong presence in The Netherlands ever since. Over recent years he has worked steadily to give the movement a new life, initially as the head of the national coordination committee and then as the inaugural President of the Slow Food Netherlands. He had the sensitivity and strength to create a strong national board, and led Slow Food in the Netherlands towards the creation of the National Association in 2008 which has become a model for others around the world.
Jan was a charismatic, compassionate and very modest leader and his dedication to Slow Food’s principles and commitment to seeing them become a reality across The Netherlands were inspirational for many. His passion helped to guide the Association through difficult moments and to emerge out of this period with an even stronger movement. It was his desire to dedicate his attention to international issues in the years to come, helping to shape the movement internationally.
We will remember Jan with enormous gratitude for his commitment and for the unestimated meaning he represented to our Association.
