EU to Ban Herbal Remedies

29 Apr 2011

In two days, the EU will place bans on natural healing remedies made of herbs and plants, leaving pharmaceutical products as the main option for any treatment. The move will drive profits into the hands of big pharmaceutical companies, jeopardize patients’ right to seek alternative medicine, and threaten virtually all Chinese, Ayurvedic, and African traditional medicine amongst others, developed through thousands of years of medical knowledge.

The directive seeks not only to ban the use of herbal remedies but also criminalize it, which would also include the growing or use of herbs in teas.

The EU Commission is still in time to withdraw or amend the directive.
