Cool Farmers, Real Tastes
18 Nov 2015
The second Slow Food Asia Pacific Festival opens today in Seoul, gathering almost 200 international delegates–farmers, fishers, artisan food producers, students, academics and Slow Food leaders—along with an expected 50,000 visitors.
The main theme of the 2015 edition is “Cool Farmers and Real Tastes”, giving just attention to the people who make our food, often overlooked, and the region’s traditional foods and flavors, at risk of disappearing.
Delegates from 41 different countries and visitors will participate in a rich program of topical conferences, taste workshops, networking seminars, an Ark of Taste exhibition, several participatory and experience activities (also addressed to children) and a University of Gastronomic Sciences Short-term Course.
Slow Food Italy will participate in the event with a 120 meter-squared stand, a restaurant, some of the country’s most well-known producers, and tastings of traditional Italian cuisine.
Slow Food Japan will also be present and include the presence of some top chefs: Chef Namae, who will talk about how chefs can support the sustainable fishing movement, and Chef Tsukada, who will present his indigenous Ainu influenced fusion food from Hokkaido.
Other Slow Food national associations will participate with stands, namely Slow Food Great China, Slow Food France, Slow Food Philippines and Slow Food Indonesia, joining representatives from the Slow Food network in Australia, Georgia, Germany, India, Iran, Jordan, Mongolia, Russia, Vietnam and Turkey who will present their traditional foods at the market.
