Cooking The Big Apple

16 May 2007

The Torino + Piemonte Food Festival, organized by the City of Turin and the Piedmont Regional Authority, will be held in the Delegates Dining Room of the General Headquarters of the United Nations Organization in New York City from May 14 -25.
The UN organizes about six Food Festivals every year but this is the first time that one has been dedicated to a city and a region country as opposed to a country.
During the festival, top chefs, the Stelle del Piemonte (Stars of Piedmont), will serve menus featuring the the best of the region’s cuisine — from truffle risotto to beef, from bagna caoda to zabaione — from 12.30 to 2.30 pm every day.

Chefs present will include Ugo Alciati from the Guido Restaurant in Pollenzo, Alfredo Russo from Dolce Stil Novo’ in Ciriè, Mariangela Susigan from Gardenia in Caluso, Walter Ferretto from Cascinale Nuovo in Asti, Marta Grassi from Tantris in Novara, Sergio Vineis from Patio in Pollone, Mariuccia Ferrero from San Marco in Canelli, Pier Bussetti from Locanda Mongreno and Stefano Gallo from Barrique, both in Turin, Massimiliano Musso from“Vittoria in Tigliole d’Asti and Andrea Ribaldone from Fermata in Spinetta Marengo.

Another ‘star of Piedmont’ in the Big Apple this week is Slow Food president Carlo Petrini, engaged in a tour of the USA to promote his book Slow Food Nation (Rizzoli).
