Beeswax and Coconut Oil Moisturizer

24 May 2013

This recipe uses three simple ingredients and 15 minutes of your time. The coconut oil keeps skin supple and smooth, the water rehydrates while the beeswax works as an emulsifier to keep the two together, as well as creating a barrier to protect skin.

1 tbsp grated beeswax
3 tbsp coconut oil (or another skin-friendly oil such as olive, or a mixture)
2 tbsp water (or green tea)

Place beeswax in a glass jar (wide enough to fit a hand blender) in a pot of boiling water until it just melts. Add the oils and continue heating slowly until the mixture is just melted. Remove from heat and blend with a hand blender. Slowly drizzle in the water and continue blending. Give it a whiz once a minute for the following 10 minutes until it is completely cool. It can be used as a face or body moisturizer. Use within a week, longer in colder environments, or store in the fridge.
