A Slow Food Celebration in a Fjord!

Organized by the Slow Food Hardanger Convivium, the second edition of the event “Terra Madre Hardanger” took place during the final weekend of June. The event was held in the small village of Ulvik (in the Hardanger Fjord) and saw almost 400 visitors take part in different activities. 

The event aimed to promote local and sustainable food, and strengthen regional networks by providing a place for producers, chefs, young people, academics and experts to meet.

The program included a diverse range of workshops aimed at both children and adults, such as home brewing, cheesemaking and baking classes. Visitors could learn how to make traditional Norwegian flat bread on an open fire for example. Local restaurants and representatives from the tourist industry were also invited to discuss how local food is a great way to attract tourists to the region.

Participants could also attend lectures about new sustainable food models in Norway, as well as similar initiatives in neighboring countries like Denmark. The Municipality of Bergen also talked about ongoing work to become an UNESCO Gastronomic City, an initiative that will affect the whole region.

On the Saturday evening, a huge dinner was organized, attended by the major of Ulvik and the former Minister of Agriculture, Trygve Slagsvold Vedum, along with the event’s visitors, tourists and particiations – a wonderful celebration of local products from the fjord!
