A Market of Good Taste
20 Apr 2010

The fourth edition of Slow Food Germany’s ‘Market of Good Taste’ (Markt des guten Geschmacks) was held in Stuttgart over the weekend, celebrating local producers and the responsibility tied hand in hand with gastronomy. Sixty-four thousand visitors came, tasted and discovered the delicacies of some 1000 artisan producers, linked in their dedication to the Slow Food philosophy of good, clean and fair food.
The weekend brought visitors together with like-minded producers from 12 German regions, as well as guest producers from abroad – the Dutch fisherman of Waddensee (Terra Madre community) and producers from the Czech Republic who were able to attend thanks to the collaboration of the Slow Food Prague Convivium.
The 2010 program included a strong education focus, featuring taste workshops (Geschmackserlebnis), the now well-known children’s cooking contest coordinated by Andreas Eggenwirt (from the Frankfurt Convivium), and a new series of seminars on gardens and sustainable school canteens.
“The need to inform ourselves about good food is crucial,” said Slow Food Germany’s newly elected president Andreas Eichler, speaking after the event. “This awareness must go hand in hand with the pleasure and the sense of responsibility. Pleasure is not a question of money, but rather a matter of conscience.”
The Markt des guten Geschmacks was organized by Slow Food Germany in partnership with the ‘Stuttgart Fair’. A particular thanks goes to Otto Geisel, former president of Slow Food Germany who played an indispensable part in the event’s organization.
