The Berlin Film Festival – the Berlinale – is one of the most important events in the movie calendar. Every February, despite cold temperatures, directors, actors, journalists and cinema fans from all over the world gather in Germany’s capital for the internationally famous event.
In recent years, with the help of Slow Food, a section of the festival has been dedicated to the world of food. Known as the Culinary Cinema (Kulinarische Kino), it shows current features, documentaries and short films that deal with the topic.
Alongside awards for film, every year a so-called Camera award is presented “to personalities or institutions to which it feels particularly indebted”.
Last week it was announced that this year, the award is going to Slow Food International President Carlo Petrini and Vice-President Alice Waters.
Speaking about the award, festival director Dieter Kosslick said: “Waters and Petrini gave the Berlinale in 2006 not only new ideas that led to the creation of the Culinary Cinema section in 2007, but also inspired ‘Food & Film’ events in many other countries,”
The award will be presented on February 8 next year.
