Glimpses of Terra Madre 2008

Our photo exhibition was organized on the Baranas Hindu University grounds in Varanasi, and displayed 120 photographs taken by Mr. Biram Kumar Chourasia, a small-scale farmer and photographer who attended the Terra Madre World Meeting of Food Communities in 2008. During his visit, Biram took some remarkable portraits of Slow Food President Carlo Petrini and Vice-president Dr. Vandana Shiva, and of farmers from all around the world. The exhibition reflected Slow Food’s global activity, and there was great interest in the organization's work from the more then 1,150 staff and students and 800 farmers and locals who visited the exhibition.
Our second activity for Terra Madre Day was an awareness program on good, clean and fair food, also held at the university. More then 350 remote area farmers participated, sharing their experiences and daily problems.

Terra Madre Day Around the World…
1,000 communities are celebrating Terra Madre Day this December 10, in one of the largest global occasions to promote sustainable food and ‘eating locally’.
Held on the occasion of Slow Food’s 20th birthday, Terra Madre Day is being celebrated by more than 100,000 farmers, producers, cooks, students, and consumers across the association’s network of 150 countries.
A global revolution can only grow from local roots, and together these community actions are building opposition to the negative impacts of agribusiness and promoting healthy food and communities.
