Commission presents proposal to address global poverty and sustainable development

Belgium | 09/06/2014 | The European Commission has adopted a Communication to contribute to the EU position at the UN General Assembly's on Sustainable Goals. The document, titled A Decent Life for All: From Vision to Collective Action, proposes among the priority areas for the years following 2015: poverty; food security and nutrition and sustainable agriculture; sustainable consumption and production biodiversity and forests; and land degradation.

Standing on the Sidelines: Why food and beverage companies must do more to tackle climate change

United Kingdom | 04/06/2014 | For the food and beverage industry, climate change is a major threat. For millions of people, it means more extreme weather and greater hunger. The Big 10 companies are significant contributors to this crisis, yet they are not doing nearly enough to help tackle it.

Oxfam International has recently published the report "Standing on the Sidelines: Why food and beverage companies must do more to tackle climate change" in which calls on the Big 10 to face up to the scale of greenhouse gas emissions produced through their supply chains, and address the deforestation and unsustainable land-use practices they allow to happen.

Slow Food at the Green Week 2014

Belgium | 03/06/2014 | The 2014 edition of Green Week, the biggest annual conference on European environment policy, has started today. It will take place until 5 June at The Egg Conference Centre in Brussels. The theme will be Circular Economy, Resource Efficiency & Waste. Slow Food will be present with a stand recreating a supermarket with explanations on how to make sustainable food consumption choices. Come to visit us in the exhibition area!
