Slow Food Japan Congress

06 Apr 14

On February 15, Slow Food Japan’s congress was held in Himeji. Welcomed by Hirai-san, leader of the active Harima Convivium, elections took place to usher in a new term for the Slow Food national associations.

The new board, composed of regional leaders, has retained much of its previous structure and will carry the association into the next three years. Tsuyoshi Goto was reelected as President of Slow Food Japan. Masayoshi Ishida has resumed his previous position as Vice President. Toshiya Sasaki, has withdrawn from the board and has been replaced by Koji Hirano, a member of the Gifu Convivium. Long-time member Yoko Kurokawa will again head up the Ark of Taste, and is working to fulfill objectives not only for Japan but for the greater area of Asia and Oceania. She will focus on strengthening the domestic network, nominating many more products for the Ark, and organizing a delegation of members to participate in the Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre 2014.

“Our association is by now recognized as a diverse and independent platform working for the ideals of Slow Food in Japan,” said reelected Slow Food Japan President Tsuyoshi Goto. “This year we have Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre. Our delegates have focused goals and incentives for the event, and will participate in various discussions and conferences on an international level. We hope that the members of Slow Food Japan, in conjunction with friends and colleagues from all over the world, will help celebrate the true worth of Slow Food by sharing the pleasure of Japanese food and its respect for the rhythm of nature.”

Slow Food in Japan currently has 43 convivia, 1,000 members, one Presidium, 29 Ark of Taste products, and a brand new Slow Food Youth Network.
