DIY Cocoa and Shea Butter Deodorant

Italy - 06 Feb 13

A recipe to create your own deodorant, free from antiperspirants or synthetic aromas. All you need is a handful of ingredients, a stove, a fridge and a few cooking utensils.

Ingredients:
3 tbsp shea butter
3 tbsp bicarbonate of soda
2 tbsp b cornstarch
2 tbsp cocoa butter
2 vitamina E capsules
2 drops essential oil of your choice

Method

Combine all ingredients (except vitamin capsules and essential oils) into a saucepan. Heat all ingredients over medium heat. Once combine into a paste, turn off the heat and transfer to a small bowl. Add oil from vitamin E capsules and the essential oil and mix together into a smooth creamy paste. Put into an airtight container and chill in refrigerator for 30-40 minutes.
To apply, take a small coin sized amount and roll into a ball with your fingers and apply to skin.

A simpler version, even if less durable, is a liquid deodorant based on bicarbonate, to apply with a spray bottle. Add 2 tsp of baking soda to a glass of water and let stand for 24 hours. Then strain the fluid and add a few drops of lemon juice, which will contribute to your daily freshness with its antibacterial properties.

Note
The success of homemade deodorant also depends on the pH of your skin of each. This recipe therefore may not work for all skin types.
